In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
We have eight games on Tuesday with some great teams to stack, so let's look at three of them.
Philadelphia Flyers
We haven't often wanted to stack the Philadelphia Flyers this season. That's because they score the seventh-fewest goals per game and are generally not a good team. They've been a little better of late, and Philly has a great matchup tonight.
The Flyers' best player this season has clearly been Travis Konecny ($9,700). He has 24 goals in just 38 games and had a hat trick last week. He's on a line and the top power-play unit with Joel Farabee ($4,900), who carries a lot salary for a player who has seven points in his last seven games. You also get a value center in Noah Cates ($4,400) to play with both of these guys.
We can target the Flyers tonight because of the matchup. They'll play at home against the Anaheim Ducks. Anaheim is still the worst defensive team in the league, allowing the most goals and most shots on goal per game. Philadelphia beat Anaheim 4-1 just over two weeks ago.
The Flyers carry an implied team total of 3.40 goals and should be able to score against this weak Ducks team.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets continue to be a force in the Western Conference. In fact, they have the most points and best points percentage in the West. They did well with some players out of the lineup, but now they are at full strength and are looking dangerous.
The first line gotNikolaj Ehlers ($9,500) back from a lengthy injury. The winger has 12 points in the eight games he's played this season. Kyle Connor ($9,100) leads the team in scoring once again, and Pierre-Luc Dubois ($8,900) is right behind him in points. This line is also fully correlated on the top power-play unit, and they're joined by Josh Morrissey ($7,200), who ranks fifth in the NHL in assists.
The second line is also useful as a value option. It includes the team's top goal scorer in Mark Scheifele ($7,300). Blake Wheeler ($6,600) is viable as he's having a good season with 30 points in 35 games. Cole Perfetti ($5,200) is the third member of this line and has shown promise as a young player.
Winnipeg will play the Montreal Canadiens tonight. Montreal is the second-worst team in the East this season and has gone 3-7-0 in their last 10 games. They also allow the sixth-most goals per game in the league.
The Jets have two bonafide scoring lines and have been on a roll. Their implied team total of 3.60 goals is hefty enough to justify playing either line.
Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings have shown decent promise this season for a younger team that is still looking for the next step to become true contenders. They've been missing key pieces from their lineup but should have enough firepower to play well tonight.
As forwards have come in and out of the lineup, Detroit's lines have been moving around. Now we're getting a top line of Dylan Larkin ($7,500), Robby Fabbri ($4,800) and Lucas Raymond ($5,700). Larkin leads the team in scoring with 39 points in 41 games. Raymond is having a decent follow-up campaign to last season in which he was fourth in Rookie-of-the-Year voting. Fabbri is the value piece and has scored three goals in six games since coming back into the lineup. Larkin and Raymond will also play on the first power play.
The Red Wings get a good matchup against the Arizona Coyotes. Arizona is on a nine-game losing streak as they continue to race toward the bottom of the league. They also allow the third-most expected goals and second-most high-danger chances on a per-60-minute basis.
Detroit should be able to play well in this matchup, and you can fit this stack into your lineup with other good pieces around it.
Others to Consider: Buffalo Sabres, Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs
