3 NBA FanDuel Value Plays to Target on Thursday 1/19/23

One of the keys to finding success in daily fantasy basketball is uncovering potential value plays.

If you're looking to roster a stud player or two, you need to consider squeezing one of these lower-salaried options into your lineup.

Let's take a look at some players who can help fill in the gaps in your lineup on FanDuel tonight, using numberFire's daily fantasy basketball projections as a guide.

Naz Reid, C, Minnesota Timberwolves

FanDuel Salary: $5,000

Naz Reid will be the go-to value play of the night assuming Rudy Gobert is out.

In five games without Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, Reid has averaged 28.9 minutes and 36.3 FanDuel points per game, good for 1.26 FanDuel points per minute.

That comes from a stat line of 13.6 shot attempts, 19.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.6 combined steals and blocks.

In games without KAT but with Gobert, Reid still averages 19.4 minutes and 23.2 FanDuel points, so he's viable with Gobert on such a small slate but really gets a bump without Rudy.

Al Horford, C/PF, Boston Celtics

FanDuel Salary: $5,200

Al Horford has played at least 30.8 minutes in five straight active games, so the role is pretty secure for the salary.

Horford is projected for 26.1 FanDuel points, good for more than 5.00 FanDuel points per $1,000 in salary.

The Golden State Warriors are just 22nd in rebounds per game allowed and are a middling defense overall (17th by defensive rating).

In games against teams in the middle tier in defensive rating, Horford has averaged 0.92 FanDuel points per minute, up from a mark of just 0.71 against top-10 opponents.

Cameron Johnson, SF/PF, Phoenix Suns

FanDuel Salary: $4,500

Sometimes, on a small slate, it's okay to take a chance.

That's partially what we'd be doing with Cameron Johnson tonight. Johnson is probable for this matchup and is projected for 23.9 minutes, per numberFire's model.

We have seen him play just eight games this season before missing months with a meniscus injury. The Phoenix Suns are without Devin Booker, and they list Chris Paul as questionable.

Johnson averaged 11.6 shot attempts per game in games before being injured this year, and that was paired with 14.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.7 combined steals and blocks, good for 0.96 FanDuel points per minute.

When in doubt on a small slate, we can chase shot volume, and it should be there for Johnson even if he doesn't get full minutes.
